The five types of diagnosisPurvarupa (prodromal symptoms )The symptoms indicating the onset of a disease and the present condition of the patient are together termed as purvarupa. Rupa ( manifested symptoms)Rupa is the manifested form of the disease. At this stage, diagnosis is carried out through touch, percussion and so on. Samprapti ( pathogenesis)The origination of a disease right from the stage of nidana. Ie the cause , till its manifestation is called samprapti. The age of the patient, general condition, the place to which he belongs and the state of his Antaragni (digestive fire) are all factors that affect the onset of disease. Types of diagnosisUpasayaDrugs, diet and routines of life which act contrary to the cause of the disease are collectively known as upasaya. Ashtavidha pareksha ( physical examinations)Eight kinds of physical examinations, together termed as yogaratnakara, are mentioned in the classical texts, these include examination of the nadi ( pulse), jihva( tongue), sabda (voice) sparsa ( touch) drik ( eyes) akruti ( appearance ) mutra ( urine) and mala ( feaces) Four fold path for right living Ayurveda recommends a four fold path for right living that includes dharma ( virtue) artha ( wealth) kama ( pleasure ) and moksha (salvation) these are to be built on the foundation of health. Here positive health does not only mean a disease free state but
a health mind and spirit.
