Butterfly Flight

The fight of butterfly is of 2 kinds : fluttering ( parachute flight
) in which the wings are moved up and down at a moderate rate and in which
the maximum speed is limited . Fluttering butterflies have broad wings
. The best fliers among butterflies , in contrast, beat their wings so
rapidly that they are visible only as blur and often produce a faint whirring
sound –due to narrowing of forewing and a reduction of hindwing
area. Most of the butterflies fly during day time (diurnal ), a few species
of the skippers during night time ( nocturnal ) and some Satyridae especially
the Browns are active during dusk and dawn (crepuscular).
