Adult

Upperside black. FW with a broad, curved hyaline white discal band ( not reaching costa) and apical conjoined spots. HW without markings. Underside dark brown with FW markings more prominent. Wingspan 38-50mm.

A butterfly of moist deciduous forests, abundant all along the wet slopes of the western ghats during monsoon months. With powerful flight, flies always close to the ground. Visits flowers of Lantana during early morning and evening hours and rests on leaves during the rest of the day.

Distribution

India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China and the Sundaland.
