Gramam, the Kerala Village Fair is a ten-day celebration of ethnic
and traditional Kerala. An entire gramam (village) is recreated at
the Kovalam beach in January and at Marine Drive in Ernakulam in February.
Inside the naluketttu, the quandrangular mansion, recreated here
using wood and tiles are displayed a wealth of antiques like wooden
furniture, jewellery, musical instruments, household utensils, etc.
A pooja room is set for worship with framed pictures of gods and goddesses,
incense sticks, wicklamps and other articles used for worship. The
major attraction is the chayakkada (the village tea shop) selling
tea, snacks and native delicacies like kappa and meen, puttu and kadala,
etc.
At Kalagramam, the artisans' enclave are stalls selling handicrafts
artifacts, gold and silver jewellery etc. Here one can watch the artistes
at work like at Paramparya. Evenings are mesmersing with the performance
of various classical, folk and ritual arts of Kerala.
