Japan (Land of rising sun) roar, bark or mew !!!!

A Quick Fix Remedy For Japan's Problems or - A Synergy Between Japan and Kerala.

(Inspired by the article “Japan must not let Roach’s forces of globalisation encroach” by William Pesek appeared in Business line dt. November 5 2006- source Bloomsberg.)

Japan as every body knows is a cluster of islands in the Pacific. A Phoenix which rose from the ashes of two atom bombs showered upon it by the western forces. A country which is just 377,872 sq.kms (145898 sq.miles) in area and a population of about 128 million, Japan is the 10th biggest in the world as far as population is concerned. It is miracle that this nation became the second largest economy in the world from the mud in which it got immersed during the world war. Japanese have got the highest life expectancy, nineteen and a half percent of the population is above sixty five years of age. Japan’s GDP is 4.167 and it is the sixth largest importer and exporter in the whole world. All these figures given in the above paragraph are surprising wonderful and known to anybody familiar with basic statistics. Then what is problem with it, is that the dream run of Japanese economy seams to have peaked or rather it shows the sign of stagnation?

If the cues emanating from the present decade is any indication. “BRIC” nations are on a fast growth tragectory, and they (Brazil, Russia, India and China) have started to steal the thunder from Japan both in technology and money power, Japan seems to be in a lithargic mood and does not seems to react. The low cost production techniques China has unleashed has shaken the entire world. The strides in IT, India made has taken the world by surprise. By breaking the shackles of communism, Russia appears to be a giant wide awake to take on the world. The technology in which Japan had an edge is slowly disappearing. An ageing population is fast becoming not healthy enough to sustain the production level in the past pace. Shortage of man power is a real shortage and cannot be solved by opening or closing up of the economy.
No economics can replace human being- Without human beings what economics mean!

Reader’s curiosity turns to the point that what is the relevance of the state of Kerala with the above facts. Kerala is a small state in the Indian union with about forty million people. With a hundred percent literacy and about fifty percent unemployment rate, Kerala can fill the vacuum with panache.

Allowing work permits to the people of Kerala is not a novel idea at all, the gulf nations especially Dubai Saudi Arabia etc have practised it long before with great amount of success. Now it must be the turn of Japan to do the same. The disciplined set up in Japan will enable people from Kerala to change the whole image of Japan, from an aged nation to a youthful and vibrant one-a combination of Japanese technology and Indian man power, which would be a surprising gift to the entire world, The mute question is that why these people cannot employed in Kerala itself, anybody familiar with the political set up of Kerala knows the fact that over politicized atmosphere of Kerala has degenerated this state in to a grave yard of industries. It is a plain fact that highly qualified young men with good grades commit suicide out of desperation of not getting jobs and thus finding their future dark and without any hope.. Kerala has the dubious distinction of having the highest suicidal rate in India. The chains of archaic ideologies and rule by obscurantist politicians have made this state so unfriendly for any industry to take root. The condition in Kerala has deteriorated to such a level that even postgraduates immigrate to gulf countries and get engaged in manual labors just for survival.

On the one side Japan which craves for new blood to turn the wheels of economy and on the other side a state which is filled with youth bound to be unemployed for their whole life suffocated by obsolete ideologies of leaders of a bygone era. This is the synergy and this is to be grabbed at the first instance. As Mr. William Pesek in his article has rightly observed The roar once heard from Japan is being reduced to mere bark. Lack of timely action may further reduce the bark in to a mere mew , admirers of the rising sun wish to hear the roar from the lion, let it roar even louder let it regain its youthfulness. After all what is good for the youth is good for the nations and what is good for these two nation is good for the whole world. Lead kindly light !!!!. “Loka samastha sukhino bhavanthu”
