Tuvar Dal 1 cup  
Garlic 3 or 4 flackes Peel and crush
Curry Leaves Small bunch  
Asafoetida Powder A pinch  
Red Chilli Powder 1/2 teaspoon  
Turmeric Powder 1/4 teaspoon  
Coriander Powder 1 teaspoon  
Salt To taste  
Oil 1 tablespoons  
Cumin Seeds 1/2 teaspoon Cook with little turmeric powder
Mustard Seeds A Pinch  

 

Preparation of Daal Fry

1. Cook dal till soft, with water.

2. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook in an open vessel. Simmer till it assimilates, adding little water if it gets too thick. Remove from heat.

3. In a small pan heat a tablespoon of oil, put some mustard seeds, when they start sputtering, add asafoetida powder, cumin seeds, and the curry leaves, fry them, and them pour over the daal.

4. Serve hot rice.
