| White rice | 2 cups | Soak in water for 5 to 6 hours |
| Black gram dal | 1 cup | Soak in water for 1 or 2 hours |
| Salt | To taste | |
| Oil | To cook |
1. Grind black gram dal to make uniform fine paste. Do not add too much water.
2. Grind rice to make a coarse paste. Do not add too much water.
3. Mix the two ground pastes well, and keep a side for 7 to 8 hours for fermentation.
4. Apply oil on the steaming pan.
5. Pour the batter on the steaming pan, steam cook for 5 to 10 minutes.
6. Serve hot with sambar or coconut chutney.
