PreCooking Preperation

White rice 2 cups Soak in water for 5 to 6 hours
Black gram dal 1 cup Soak in water for 1 or 2 hours
Salt To taste  
Oil To cook  

 

Preparation of Idli

1. Grind black gram dal to make uniform fine paste. Do not add too much water.

2. Grind rice to make a coarse paste. Do not add too much water.

3. Mix the two ground pastes well, and keep a side for 7 to 8 hours for fermentation.

4. Apply oil on the steaming pan.

5. Pour the batter on the steaming pan, steam cook for 5 to 10 minutes.

6. Serve hot with sambar or coconut chutney.
