Ettumanoor Sree Mahadevar Temple ettumanoor ( 10 days festival )
supposed to be consecrated by Khara Maharshi thousands of years back.
Famous for mural paintings. Kumbham ( feb- march) Thiruvathira Arattu.
All these days procession conducted with caparisoned elephants ( seven
and half ) are taken out for dersan. Main offering is pouring oil
to the bhadradeepam, Naipayasam and Koottupayasom.
This temple is situated at Ettumanoor in Kottayam district. It is
one among the 32 ancient Namboodiri villages in Kerala and is a Village
temple. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva and the installation is
a big Lingam. The appearance of the lord here is as one like a destroyer,
in the Sarabeshamoorthy style. The round Sanctum Sanctorum faces west.
Five poojas are offered a day, excepting Shivarathri day, when 18
poojas are offered. The thanthric used is Thavnun. In the southwest
comer of the main altar Ganapathi is also present. Sub- deities are,
Dakshinamoorthy, Sastha, Bhagawathy and Yakshi. The flag mast is of
gold and the deities are believed to be installed by Villuamangalam
as per epic. A lll-day festival is celebrated with an arrattu on the
Thiruvathira star day during the Malayalam month of Kumbam.
