Kodungoor Sree Bhagavathy Temple
Kodungoor Sree Bhagavathy Temple south side of KK road at Kodungoor.
This is the first temple in which Bhadrakali was installed in Kerala
and is in the center of Kodungalloor town in Trichur district. Very
rare and unique rituals are practiced here since its inception and
the famous among them is the songs using bad words in praise of the
deity (Theripattu). This is the central temple for 64 Bhadrakali temples
allover Kerala, and the power of this Bhadrakali has been transferred
to hundreds of temples allover the state. The rituals and poojas are
conducted using the Rurujith method of adoration and are a very complicated
method. Sree Shankaracharya has installed a Mahameru Srichakram here
in this Sanctum Sanctorum, and has heightened the intensity of spirituality,
and as a result the Sanctum Sanctorum was closed.
