Thrikkakkara Vamana Moorthy, Mahavishnu north of ernakulam, 2 kilometers
east of edapally, festival from chingam atham, thiruvonam arattu.
on the birthday of mahavishnu the devotees participate in the feast.
the feast itself is an offering.
Most number of stone manuscripts were found in this temple amongst
Kerala temples. This is in Thrikkakara in Emakulam district via Pookattupadi.
Two temples, one is Vamana temple and other is Mahadeva temple, are
situated in an area encompassing lOY2 acres. Vamana temple has big
round Sreekovil. The presiding deity is Vamana (Vishnu), facing eastward.
Five poojas are conducted and Thanthram is Puliyannoor. The sub-deities
of Vamana temple are Bhagavathi, Sasthav, Gopalakrishnan, Nagam, Rakshasu,
Yaks hi etc. Sree Mahadeva temple is situated on the southern side.
In Vamana temple festival starts on Atham day of Chingam month and
arattu is on Thiruvonam day. People who could not attend for the festival
were ordered to install Thrikkakarayappan in their houss and conduct
the festival by the Kerala Emperor Perumal. The tradition of placing
Thrikkakarayappan in residences from Atham day to ThiruvonaIJl with
Onam celebration was started thus.
