ingredients for 4
lentils 100 gm
coriander 20 gm
red chillies 5 gm
split bengal gram 3 gm
split black gram 3 gm
fenugreek 3 gm
asafoetida 1/2 tsp
ladies fingers 30 gm
onions 50 gm
brinjals 1
drumsticks 4
turmeric 1/4 tsp
tamarind 15 gm
salt to taste
to temper  
curry leaves 1 sprig
red chillies 2
mustard seeds a pinch
fenugreek 1/4 tsp
clarified butter 1 tsp
onions 10 gm

Method

1. Boil dal .Add vegetables cut into even-sized pieces ,and powdered spices ,cook till vegetables are tender .2. Add tamarind juice extracted in a cup of hot water . Bring to boil . Test for seasoning and remove . 3. Heat clarified butter in a frypan .Add mustard seeds ,sliced onions ,broken red chililes ,curry leaves and fenugreek .4. When onions brown ,pour over sambar .Stir well .
